You can grant access to a MySQL database from an external location by adding a domain name or an IP address to a list of acceptable hosts list to allow access to the database remotely. Furthermore, if you use an application to manage your database, you would need to add the IP address that the connection is made from as an allowed access host.
The first step is to log into your cPanel account. If you are unsure on how to do this, please view the following help article - 'How to log into cPanel'. alt text
Scroll down to the 'Databases' section and choose 'Remote MySQL'. alt text
Enter the domain name or the IP address where the remote database access connection will be established from - you can use % as a wildcard for an IP range if need be. alt text
Select 'Add Host' to allow the access. alt text
You should now see visual confirmation that the new host has been added. To review, select the 'Go Back option. alt text
You can now see under the 'Access Hosts' list that the new host is present. alt text If more remote database connections are required, you can repeat the process again by entering another host. Creating a MySQL remote database connection is now complete.
